Picture this: You’ve been looking forward to eating the delicious chocolate truffles you just bought a few days ago.
But while you sink your teeth into what was supposed to be luscious, you notice something that shouldn’t be in your mouth (or the truffles).
To your horror, you find out that there’s mould on the truffles.
And that’s exactly what someone in Singapore experienced after paying over $130 for two boxes of truffles from Awfully Chocolate.
Well, I guess the brand did live up to the meaning of its name in one way or another.
On Friday (28 April), Facebook user Chong Jinde uploaded a post to COMPLAINT SINGAPORE to detail his family’s experience of being sold mouldy chocolates from the local brand.
In his post, he explained that his parents had bought two boxes of chocolate truffles from Awfully Chocolate’s Raffles City Outlet last Monday (24 April).
However, the family discovered that the chocolate truffles were “mouldy and ‘hairy’ in the inner layer” when they opened the box to eat them on Thursday (27 April).
“Quite a number of them have it[,] and my family have consumed [a] few pieces already,” Chong noted.
Chong also mentioned that he had also emailed Awfully Chocolate, but the brand was apparently “providing inconclusive replies”.
Regardless, I think it’s safe to say that the family definitely didn’t enjoy their truffles a choco-lot.
Awfully Chocolate’s Response
However, it seems like the local cake and chocolate brand has since responded to the issue.
In an article published on Saturday (29 April), the company told Mothership that it has since gotten in contact with Chong and has apologised for his family’s unsatisfactory experience.
In particular, Awfully Chocolate disclosed that they have been contacting Chong every single day since the Facebook post was posted to ensure that no one has fallen ill after eating the mouldy chocolate truffles.
It added that Chong is now aware of Awfully Chocolate’s intentions behind asking for photographs and samples of the truffles, as they needed these resources to carry out an investigation.
Apart from that, the brand disclosed that they have since provided Chong’s family with a full refund of the products they bought.
Overall, Awfully Chocolate expressed gratitude towards Chong for informing them of the incident.
It added that it will continue to change its service and products for the better.

Another Customer Found Glass in an Awfully Chocolate Tiramisu in 2021
However, it seems like this isn’t the first time Singaporeans have found an issue with Awfully Chocolate’s products.
Back in 2021, a netizen uploaded photos to the Complaint Singapore (yes, it’s a different group) to share his experience of finding a glass shard in a tiramisu he bought from Awfully Chocolate.
Eventually, the Singapore Food Authority (SFA) got involved and investigated the case.
As for Awfully Chocolate, the brand claimed that the shard could have been formed after the edge of a container was chipped off.
