Brunei has been hitting the front page news recently.
Unfortunately, it’s not for anything happy.
It was reported that on 24 October 2020, Brunei Prince ‘Abdul’ Azim had passed away at 38 years old.
News reports mentioned that he was in the hospital for a while before passing away.
Currently, the country is still in its seven-days of mourning.
His brother, Prince ‘Abdul Mateen, and fourth in line to succeed the throne, has recently shared more details regarding the death.
Organ Failure And Other Problems
On 27 October, Prince ‘Abdul Mateen, 29, revealed that his brother suffered from multiple organ failure.
This was due to an autoimmune disease, The Straits Times reported.
He also said that his brother was diagnosed with severe systemic vasculitis earlier this year.
Basically, it inflames your blood vessels, restricting blood flow and causing organ and tissue damage.
Prince ‘Abdul Mateen also said that his brother struggled with bipolar disorder, making the suffering worse.
He eventually succumbed to the disease and passed away 10.08am (local Brunei time) on 24 October.
He was laid to rest at the Royal Mausoleum in the capital on the same day.
Remembering The Late Prince
Taking to his Instagram, Prince ‘Abdul Mateen shared a long post about his brother.
It was accompanied by a picture of the brothers having fun as children.
He said that when ‘Abang Azim’ was around, every day wasn’t boring.
He always had fun didn’t take things too seriously and brought joy to others around him.
Prince ‘Abdul Mateen also mentioned that his brother was also an advocate of “bringing awareness to different causes”.
He ends by thanking everyone for their condolences, stating that the family was okay.
“We just miss him.”
In his lifetime, Prince ‘Abdul’ Azim had encountered and even made friends with many big names from around the world.
They too also took their moments to mourn him.
These included media personality Perez Hilton, actress Joan Collins and singer Janet Jackson.
The latter wrote in her Instagram story, “Azim, I love you too and insyallah no more pain. In the name of the most high, the most merciful, He will take care of you now. Ameen.”
For Good Causes
Not just known for hanging out with bigwigs, Prince ‘Abdul’ Azim also supported many charitable causes.
In 2011, he spoke at a charity show at the Empire Hotel and Country Club’s Indera Samudra Hall in Brunei Darussalam.
There were 31 people with autism who performed during the event.
He then said that to treat those with autism respectfully, as you would your family members and other people.
He also said that it was important for him to be there and show his support.
Prince ‘Abdul’ Azim also spoke at the opening of 2nd ASEAN Autism Network (AAN) Congress, mentioning that he would like to see more support go towards family members of those with autism.
