Growing up, I listened to music from different genres and countries. English, Mandarin, Korean, a little bit of Japanese as well as the weirdly iconic ones like Crazy Frog.
That being said, I can’t mention Crazy frog without featuring this pair of brothers.
For good or for worse, there’s no denying that music has a strong impact on its listeners.
Imagine movies without background music and sound effects. That heartbreaking scene in More than Blue (比悲傷更悲傷的故事) where A-Lin sings the chorus of the official soundtrack – 有一種悲傷 wouldn’t be a cue for the waterworks.
One of the reasons why I haven’t been catching up on mainstream English music is because they’re generally about the same few things – drugs and booty, complete with very catchy lyrics and rhythm.
Even when I sing Karaoke with my friends, I realize that the majority of the English songs we belt out are classics by Britney Spears, Linkin Park and Avril Lavigne.
Songs back then actually had more feels if you will, and the lyrics seemed to make more sense the more you listen to it when you’re older.
Not pointing fingers but y’know, work in general.
If you’d like to rewind time like me and go back to a place much simpler than this, I might just have the solution for you.
But beware, the solution comes in limited quantity so I suggest you act fast.
