Bedok HDB Residents Cannot Dry Clothes As Neighbour on the Top Floor Keeps on Hanging Wet Clothes

The sun is shining and it is time to get some chores done. Mum washes the clothes today and hangs it out for the sun to bake them dry. When you come home, you expect to wear fresh, clean and nice smelling clothes.

But no. The clothes you come back to are still wet and dripping.

Wait, is that a black stain? Mum doesn’t wash black and white clothes together. You look up and notice your neighbour’s black pants dripping dye stained water down onto every other resident’s clothes.

That is exactly what a Bedok resident goes through every time she intends to dry her clothes on the poles outside her home.

The Block 530 Bedok North Street 3 resident has not been able to hang her clothes out in the scorching Singapore sun ever since she moved into the house. That is a good 2 or 3 years of soiled clothing and having to take up space to dry clothes indoors.

Bedok HDB Resident Cannot Dry Clothes As Neighbour Above’s Clothes Are Always Dripping

She took to Stomp to share her grievances about her irresponsible neighbour. In videos that she shared on the platform, copious amounts of water can be seen dripping down and even getting the building facade wet.

“Sometimes, it’s even a doormat that is dripping wet, which I cannot accept,” she said. Doormats and floor rugs are extremely hard to clean and even after multiple washes, it still cannot be 100% clean.

Here are some videos to show how bad the situation is:

She definitely cannot wear a doormat-smelling blouse to work, can she?

Under her post, many other articles and posts follow about irresponsible and selfish neighbours leaving their dripping wet laundry out.

If you are thinking “just talk to them then”, here’s the thing: they already have.

The original poster had already gone to speak with her neighbour about this issue 10 times, but there was no improvement.

As a result of this neighbour’s behaviour, the entire block of residents living underneath her unit is unable to dry their clothes outside.

What would you do with a neighbour like that?

Formal Complaint

A formal complaint has been lodged to the Housing Development Board (HDB) and together with the town council, a statement was released addressing the issue.

“We urge residents to exercise good neighbourliness and be considerate of fellow residents. This is crucial in building a harmonious living environment for all.”

In the meantime, if you’re facing this problem and needs dry clothes, you can consider indoor drying, because it’s going to be pretty rainy until 2021 comes.
