Youth Threatened Neighbour With Knife Coz’ He Was Unhappy With Renovation Noise Level

Imagine this – one day, you’re just relaxing at home, ready to take a nice afternoon nap.

You close your eyes and suddenly… earthquake-like noises erupt from the unit next to yours, not ceasing for hours, and the ringing in your ears continues on even after it stops.

Most people would just grit their teeth and bear with it, or even curse for a while.

Since it’s totally understandable that people living near you may be undergoing renovation works, right?

Not for this one youth, though.

Youth Threatens Neighbour With Knife

You may have noticed more people undergoing renovation near you during this COVID-19 period, when you have no choice but to stay at home more often.

It was the case for the residents of Block 747C along Bedok Reservoir Crescent, whereby one neighbour hired a contractor to visit their home to carry out renovation works.

Unfortunately, and rather inevitably, the noise from it may have been too loud for others to handle – especially their next-door neighbour.

Suspected to have been upset with the renovation noises going on next door and the clutter in the corridor, the youth next door decided to take matters into his own hands.

On 21 September, at about 1:15pm, the police received reports of a man standing outside his neighbour’s door threateningly with a knife in hand. Yikes.

According to Lianhe Zaobao, residents witnessed many police cars and even fire trucks at the scene, along with fully armed policemen.

However, upon reaching the scene, the police found that the boy had locked himself in his unit and had refused to open the door.

Safety Air Cushions Set Up Downstairs

As such, the police had to employ the help of the Crisis Negotiation Unit and Special Operations Command in fear that worse events may transpire.

The area was then cordoned off with police tape, while safety air cushions were set up at the foot of the HDB block by the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF).

The Disaster Rescue Team (DART) was also on standby at the scene as a precautionary measure.

After five hours of waiting, the police finally managed to convince the youth to open the door.

Thankfully, no one was injured in the process.

The neighbour living next door commented that he was not at home during the time of the incident, but his daughter had overheard about the incident from the contractor while she happened to be in the lift.

Only at about 6:30pm did the police remove the tape.

An investigation is currently going on, and the youth has been brought in to assist with investigations.
