There is nothing worse than returning home after a tiring day at work only to realise that there are no more parking spots near your home.
It’s even worst when you realised the full parking spots are not occupied by cars. Instead, they’re occupied by large branches and tree leaves.
50 Parking Spots at Bedok Reservoir Road Taken Up by Tree Branches After Tree Maintenance
A resident at Block 616 on Bedok Reservoir Road, 64-year-old Mr Bai, told Shin Min Daily (新明日报) that yesterday at around noon, some workers came around to trim the trees in the area.
They left in the evening, leaving behind heaps of tree branches and leaves, as well as traffic cones that took up approximately 50 parking lots along the road.
“They didn’t clear away the trimmed branches and leaves, and even left behind traffic cones that hogged multiple parking spots. It’s very difficult to find parking spots here because of this.”
“There are many residents standing there discussing the issue among themselves too,” he added.
He also revealed that the parking lots in the area are already lacking in the first place.
If he returned home late, such as after 11pm, he could only find a spot to park much further away.
He continued that the workers should have planned in advance and cleared away the branches immediately after pruning the trees.
Another resident, a 44-year-old chef, Mr Cai, said that after returning home at 7pm yesterday, he found that all the parking spots have been “occupied”.
“I believe they plan on cleaning up the place tomorrow, but they didn’t take into account the parking needs of the residents.”
He added that he saw a parking spot that wasn’t covered in tree branches so he removed the traffic cone that was placed there just so he could park his car.
He hoped that the authorities would pay more attention to issues like this in the future.
Based on the reporter’s observations, a large number of tree branches covered both red and white boxes there.
Every affected parking lot also has a traffic cone placed on it.
Many car owners have already moved the traffic cones so they could park their cars, but there are still around 30 parking spots that are covered in tree branches.
If Contractor Violated Regulations, Action Will Be Taken
The Aljunied-Hougang Town Council stated that it will take action against contractors who violate regulations.
Replying via email, the spokesperson said that the council apologizes to the residents for failing to clean up the trimmed branches in the parking lots near Block 616.
If the contractor is found to violate regulations, action will be taken.
