Family Land Dispute Triggers Fatal Attack Over Mango Picking

The deadly confrontation occurred during a quarrel over picking mangoes from the family’s small plantation. Family members found the deceased’s body near a mango tree after Bimal attacked her with a chopper.

The dispute stemmed from long-standing disagreements over ancestral property ownership. Suvadip, the victim’s son, revealed his uncle harboured resentment against several family members regarding property distribution.

“My uncle always complained that his share in the ancestral properties was less than the others. He earlier accused my mother of stealing fish from a lake the family owns,” Suvadip said.

Frequent quarrels had erupted between the victim and accused in recent days. Neighbours reported that Bimal had threatened the victim before the fatal attack.

Accused Shows No Remorse During Public Display and Surrenders

Eyewitnesses described Bimal’s behaviour as he walked through the streets carrying the severed head. The accused appeared extremely angry and cursed the victim while marching publicly.

“He screamed that he had paid back for the injustice done to him for so many years. His rage was so intense that no one dared to stop him while he was roaming around with the weapon and the severed head, though some passers-by captured the video on their mobile phones,” an eyewitness said.

Hajnal Mondal, a villager who witnessed the accused’s public display, noted Bimal’s chilling calmness. “Bimal did not show any sign of remorse. He was calm. He even stopped by a roadside temple, bowed before the idols, and walked away,” he said.

The incident shocked local residents. Several eyewitnesses saw Mondal walking along the road with the victim’s head before they raised an alarm.

“We suspect a family feud may have led to the chilling murder,” a district police official said. “He showed no remorse when he surrendered before us. He was carrying both the severed head and the murder weapon. His behaviour suggests he is not in a normal state of mind.’

Neighbours expressed disbelief that the family dispute escalated to such violence. “However, none of us imagined the family dispute would end in such a horrific act,” a neighbour said.
