2020 is honestly a very weird year, economically speaking.
On one hand, the prospects are absolutely miserable for some industries. Corporations that used to be able to promise “iron rice bowls” are going through sizeable retrenchments.
Many local operations struggle to survive – my favourite cai png stall has left me for good and brought with it their delicious fried meatballs.

On the other hand, some franchises seem to be thriving.
New opportunities cropped up in the market; some homegrown businesses are also expanding.
Regardless, be it new store openings or clearance promotions, consumers seem to be getting the long end of the stick either way.

Japanese electronics retailer BEST Denki is having a moving out sale at their City Square Mall outlet.
From now till Sep 20, enjoy deals up to 80% off on a wide range of electronics.
Students and tech enthusiasts can score TVs, sound systems and laptops for cheap.
The sale is also extended to a vast selection of kitchen appliances, such as juicers, blenders, air fryers and even refrigerators.
Lots of people have taken up cooking and baking during the pandemic – they can certainly benefit from a few more new toys to tinker with.

Apart from that, homemakers can get an upgrade on cleaning appliances – perhaps a better, more silent vacuum cleaner.
While it is a “moving out” sale, the destination of the move is not yet specified.
Hopefully, they won’t become another one to bite the dust.
