80s/90s kids, there goes another piece of your childhood.
Back when Wild Wild Wet and Adventure Cove didn’t yet exist, Big Splash was everyone’s go-to waterpark. Westies travelled all the way down to East Coast not only for the flume rides and water slides, but for its famed Seafood International Market & Restaurant.
But after 40 years in operation, the waterpark is going out, not with a big splash, but a small trickle. Seems like kind of an insult, for a place as iconic as this – in its heyday, it was known for having the tallest water slides in Singapore.
Big Splash will close its doors on 21 October, when its NParks lease expires. It will make way for a new development, details of which have yet to be revealed.
As for Seafood International, the restaurant will be operating until 15 September – in the meantime, they will be running a Thai-themed lunch buffet promotion, featuring many of the dishes on its original menu in 1983 as a last hurrah. So if you’re looking to take a trip down memory lane, now’s the time.
First Underwater World, now Big Splash. Urbanisation is inevitable, but it still sucks when a place you’ve spent such a huge chunk of your childhood just closes down like that.
