BlueSG has retrenched a significant portion of its workforce, after announcing on 4 August 2025 that it would wind down operations.
The car-sharing platform plans to relaunch an upgraded platform in 2026.
According to Mothership, a laid-off employee revealed that up to 80 per cent of the company’s workforce were let go.
The person who provided the tip-off, however, declined to reveal details of the severance package or how the downsizing exercise was carried out.
BlueSG Confirms Mass Layoffs Amid Platform Upgrade Plans
When asked for comment, BlueSG confirmed the layoffs but did not disclose specific numbers.
A BlueSG spokeswoman said the layoffs “reflects the reduced operational scale during the pause period”.
The company stated it will operate with a lean core team during the platform upgrade phase.
BlueSG said in its statement: “We can confirm that as operations pause for the platform upgrade, BlueSG will be operating with a lean core team – a move which has unfortunately impacted a significant portion of our workforce.”
The company added that supporting affected employees remains a top priority through fair severance, clear communication, and meaningful career transition support.
BlueSG is actively exploring potential redeployment opportunities across the group for affected staff.
Where possible, BlueSG will explore redeployment opportunities within the wider group.
The company stated: “This decision was not made lightly, and we’re handling the process with care and respect for everyone involved.”
BlueSG anticipates new roles to open up when the upgraded platform launches and hopes to welcome back members of its original team where possible.
The new service is slated to be launched in 2026.
Union Support Available for Affected BlueSG Workers
National Transport Workers’ Union executive secretary Yeo Wan Ling confirmed that BlueSG is a non-unionised company.
However, there are employees who are members of the National Transport Workers’ Union (NTWU), an affiliated union with the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC).
NTUC’s affiliated unions or associations will extend assistance and support to affected members who are union members in non-unionised companies.
