What do you do if you suspect your boyfriend of cheating on you?
- Ask him if it’s true.
- Find proof that it’s true.
- Anything but pour boiling water on his private parts
Unfortunately, the lady that we’re going to do about went ahead and did the opposite of number 3.
An On-And-Off Relationship
According to ST, the couple had first gotten together back in 2006.
They had an on-and-off relationship, breaking up multiple times because they suspect the other party of cheating.
However, things came to a head in 2017.
The woman, Zareena Begun P. A. M. Basheer Ahamed, saw her boyfriend with another woman at Harbourfront Centre Terminal.
Since 2015, Zareena had suspected that the boyfriend was having an affair with her.
So in the early morning hours of 5 Jul 2017, Zareena snuck into the living room, where he was sleeping after supper, and snuck his phone out of his bag.
As she read through the woman’s messages to her boyfriend, she got angrier and angrier.
That was when she did the unthinkable.
Teaching Him A Lesson
Zareena had allegedly wanted to “teach him a lesson he wouldn’t forget”.
“She wanted to teach him a lesson for letting her down over and over again.”
So she went ahead and overturned a mug of boiling water on his pants over the groin area.
She had allegedly even said “serve you right” when her boyfriend woke up in extreme pain, asking why she did it.
“It Was An Accident.”
Her lawyers had tried to argue that it was all an accident.
According to Zareena’s version of the events, she had woke him up on that day and asked to check his phone.
That was when the pair argued.
She allegedly went to the kitchen to boil water and he followed her in.
He had taken a seat on a stack of stools, she claimed.
When she was holding on to the mug, the man had allegedly pulled on her arm, leading to her spilling water over his groin area.
Both versions sound plausible, which is why it was left up to science to determine who was right.
It Was Spilt When Lying Down
According to the doctor who attended to the boyfriend’s injury, he was likely lying down when the incident happened.
Dr Chew Khong Yik pointed out that the man had suffered splash injuries on his upper torso, but none on his knees, calves, toes and feet.
If he was seated instead of lying down, the boiled water would have flowed to his lower body.
In addition, the man also had a burn mark on his left buttock, which is “consistent” with boiling water flowing down from the groin area, he said.
26 Days Of Hospitalisation
The aftermath of the incident was messy, to say the least.
The boyfriend had to be admitted to the hospital and hospitalised for 26 days. He was also unable to work for about six months.
According to reports, he suffered second- and third-degree burn injuries on more than one-tenth of his body surface area.
It was also added that the ones who lodged a police report weren’t the boyfriend, but the hospital.
To Be Sentenced On 10 Oct 2020
On 28 Sep 2020, Zareena was found guilty of causing grievous hurt to her sleeping boyfriend.
She is likely to be sentenced on 20 Oct 2020 and is facing imprisonment for life or up to 15 years, and a fine.
For voluntarily causing grievous hurt, caning would’ve been part of the punishment but as a woman, she will not be caned.
