Strawberry generation? Aiya, more like strawberry population.

A young boy allegedly hit a stranger in an IMM restaurant, and his mother told him not to apologise. Here’s what you need to know about it.

Boy Allegedly Hits Stranger Dining at Ichiban Sushi

On Sunday (18 June), a netizen named Bob Chan took to the COMPLAINT SINGAPORE Facebook group to, well, complain about his experience at the Ichiban Sushi restaurant in IMM.

Contrary to what you may be thinking, it was neither a classic boomer complaint about the exorbitant price of the food items nor the “exceptional” service at the restaurant.

It was a complaint about another group of patrons.

Chan first described the setting—he was having lunch with his family at the Japanese restaurant. Beside his family’s table sat another group of patrons: a mother and two kids.

According to Chan, a small advertisement brochure stand stood between the two tables.

This was where the trouble began.

The boy at the table next to Chan’s allegedly knocked over the brochure stand twice, hitting Chan’s mother.

Perhaps the boy had too much energy. Eat too much already.

Boy’s Mother Tells Boy Not to Apologise

Later, Chan approached the boy’s mother, urging her to look after her son so that he won’t knock the brochure stand over for the third time.

As they say, the third time’s the charm.

However, to Chan’s surprise, the boy’s mother pulled a “Michael Jordan” and took Chan’s comment quite personally.

According to Chan, the boy’s mother replied: “Look after yourselves first”.

Wah… We don’t know whether we should say “Kids nowadays” or “Parents nowadays” in this scenario.

She even told her son not to apologise for knocking over the brochure stand and assured her son not to be worried about being “bullied”.

If the boy’s mother was trying to protect her “strawberry” son, we can only say that this isn’t even the “strawberry” type of fragile anymore.

This is more like the “fall-off-the-bone bak kut teh ribs” type of fragile.

After Chan’s family finished their meal and was about to leave, Chan’s mother gently reminded the boy’s mother about her son’s behaviour.

Wrong tree to bark up—the boy’s mother started shouting about how Chan’s family was harassing her.

Feisty.

So, what’s your take on this story? Is it a mere case of the Rashomon effect, or are Singaporeans becoming increasingly “strawberry”?

Singaporean Allegedly Abuses Hotel Staff in Bintan

One thing to be grateful for is, fortunately, this incident at the IMM restaurant did not escalate into a full-scale TikTok slander battle.

The same can’t be said for a recent altercation where a Singaporean went viral on TikTok for allegedly “abusing” hotel staff in Bintan.

TLDR, a Singaporean got angry at hotel staff for knocking on his door despite him hanging a “do not disturb” sign on the door. He later got angry at another guest at the hotel for being a busybody.

Essentially, “strawberries” galore.

Of course, the whole story is much more complicated than this—it involves even three-minute-long TikTok clips, which in our age is equivalent to sitting through Snyder’s cut of Justice League.
