People doing ridiculous and stupid stuff solely for content purposes is something we know all too well.
You probably remember the TikTok of the boy doing a backflip in Singapore Zoo’s rhino enclosure. We’ve seen our fair share of dumb tricks in video form.
This still keeps happening, as a police report was recently lodged by SMRT against a 12-year-old boy for causing a train delay which was captured on video.

What He Did, All Caught on Tape
You may wonder how a 11-year-old child is single-handedly responsible for causing a train delay along the East West Line.
In a now-deleted video uploaded to Youtube, the boy was seen slotting what seemed like a metal flask between the PSDs (platform screen doors) to prevent them from closing fully on a train platform located in Jurong East MRT Station.
“I’m gonna upload this to Youtube…I mean I’m not, I mean I am,” the boy said in the video, unaware of the consequences that would flood him following this rash act.
The video later shows the affected doors remaining closed while the train doors behind them open, with the rest of the platform screen doors open.
He later said, “I’m going on the North South Line, I don’t wanna be too much of a suspect.”
How ironic because he goes on to upload the video to YouTube for the whole world to see, and the rest is history.
The boy was hit with the realisation that the train was delayed, as an SMRT officer is shown investigating the cause of the disruption.
Fortunately, despite the slight delay, the train eventually proceeded on its journey.

Netizens Flare up in Anger
When the video surfaced on Reddit, netizens flooded the comments with vitriolic remarks – some unleashed expletives on the boy, while others expressed their distaste at the fact that the boy did something just to garner attention.
Some noted how frustrating it would be for someone who frequents public transport, and understandably so, as the train already feels so slow when you’re rushing, and this would only add fuel to the fire.
Some blamed the boy’s parents, also understandably so, because why is such a young person committing something so irresponsible and unprovoked?

And, of course, apparently, people never get tired of using the same old orange EZ-link card joke.
SMRT’s Response
Now it’s getting serious.
SMRT’s president Lam Sheau Kai acknowledged the incident which occurred on Tuesday, 28 February, at around 5 pm.
“A commuter on the east-bound station platform at Jurong East MRT Station deliberately prevented a platform screen door from closing…we have reported this matter to the police.”
It is unclear what exact consequences the boy will face.

But one thing’s certain: kids, don’t do stupid things. If you want to do silly things, don’t post them on the Internet for everyone to see.
