A mother recently took to social media to complain after her five-year-old son twisted his neck while playing in a “roller tunnel” at an indoor playground in Tampines, resulting in a three-day hospital stay.
A spokesperson for the playground said they have visited the boy in hospital, are conducting an internal investigation, and have posted notices outside the facility.
Accident Details and Mother’s Account
The incident occurred on 22 Mar 2025 at Our Tampines Hub.

A social media user named Anna posted in a Facebook group that she had taken her five-year-old son to the Jolly Jungle indoor playground at Our Tampines Hub that day.
At the time of the incident, her son was playing in an automatic rotating roller tunnel while she sat resting nearby.
Anna said: “My son twisted his neck inside the tunnel after playing for just a few seconds.”
She noted that her son’s neck was visibly tilted afterward, with a protruding bone-like structure, requiring three days of hospitalization and X-ray examinations.
What worried her more was that when she inquired about the incident, the person in charge at Jolly Jungle told her that as a parent, she should have played a supervisory role.
They also claimed the machine was operating normally, so they had no responsibility.
Playground’s Response and Safety Measures
When reporters visited Jolly Jungle on Thursday (3 Apr 2025), a spokesperson revealed that after reviewing CCTV footage, they found the boy was playing in the roller tunnel at the time of the incident, while his mother sat about 5 meters away.
“After he came out of the roller, he walked toward his mother to report that his head was uncomfortable, and his mother worriedly stroked his head. At that time, we couldn’t see any issues with the boy’s head from the CCTV. However, later he climbed onto the partition next to the ball pit, and when he came down, his neck was noticeably twisted,” the spokesperson said.

The CCTV footage showed the boy’s mother quickly taking him away from the playground.
“We only learned about this incident after receiving a message from the mother on 24 Mar 2025. I immediately went to visit him with some small gifts that day.”
The spokesperson said the boy’s mother also sent an email requesting improvements to the playground and compensation, though no amount was specified.
“We found that the machine had no malfunction, so we cannot provide compensation. If the problem had been caused by the machine, we would definitely take responsibility.”
He added that after the incident, they conducted an internal investigation and discussed how to improve the facilities.

They have posted new notices on the roller and trampoline to make the rules clearer for users. The notices remind parents to take care of their children and specify the rules for using this equipment.
The post claimed there were no height and age requirements listed for the facility, nor any warning signs. The spokesperson said the roller is suitable for children aged three to 12.
In her post, Anna said there were no notices about age and height restrictions at the time of the incident, and the lack of safety measures and dismissive attitude toward children’s injuries were unacceptable.
“Similarly, there are no warnings in the trampoline area, and adults also enter to play with children.”
The Jolly Jungle spokesperson explained that the playground is for children under 12, the roller is suitable for children aged three to 12, and there are no height restrictions.

He noted that three staff members supervise the playground on weekends.
He pointed out that they have conducted a review and responded to the mother about this matter. However, she did not reply afterward and instead posted on social media.
“We still welcome continued communication with her about this matter.”
