Remember that British maskless man who made a nuisance of himself on the MRT?

Yep, he’s back again—this time, with a new charge.

Maskless British Man in MRT Train Faces New Charge for Not Wearing Mask When He Went to Court

On Monday (19 July), Benjamin Glynn returned to court and was handed a new charge for failing to wear his mask both inside and outside the State Courts.

The 40-year-old Briton had previously went viral after a video was captured showing Glynn refusing to wear a mask on the MRT train.

On 2 July, he had been charged with one count of failing to wear a mask while travelling on an MRT train on 7 May, and one count of making a nuisance of himself in public. He also faced another charge of using threatening language against police officers two days later on 9 May.

During his court hearing, Glynn had—what do you expect—showed up without wearing a mask. District Judge Lorraine Ho had to warn Glynn twice to wear his mask properly before he finally pulled it up to cover his nose.

Since Monday, Glynn’s bail of $5,000 has been revoked, and he has been in remand.

Glynn will be returning to court for a pre-trial conference on Friday (23 July).

Earlier Charges

According to court documents, Glynn had been travelling from Raffles Place MRT Station to Holland Village MRT Station on 7 May past 11pm—all the while without wearing a mask.

At one point, he had declared “I will never wear a mask” on the train, despite “knowing that the said act will probably cause annoyance to the public,” court documents read.

The next incident took place on 9 May around 12.30am, at the ground floor lift lobby of the Allsworth Park condominium along Holland Road.

Glynn had allegedly used threatening words towards two police officers, telling the officers “I’m gonna f*cking drop you” while adopting a boxing stance.

Doesn’t Believe in Wearing Mask

British news site The Daily Mail had interviewed Glynn.

“This whole situation is ridiculous. I want to leave the country anyway—just let me go! I think it’s insane that I am facing a trial at all, just for not wearing a mask… especially when I don’t even believe masks stop the spread of the virus in the first place… From a scientific basis, I think it’s nonsense.”

Well, I think’s it insane that he expects no repercussions after failing to abide by the laws of the country he’s in.

For violating COVID-19 laws by not wearing a mask in public, he can be sentenced to up to six months’ jail or fined up to $10,000, or both.
