You may have seen a viral video of a supposed pipe bust in City Square Mall yesterday night (3 Sep 2025).

As it turns out, the cause can be traced back to a KFC outlet in the mall.
At around 8pm yesterday night, a ceiling collapsed at the KFC outlet in City Square Mall.
The incident occurred at the Basement 1 floor of the mall located at 180 Kitchener Road.
KFC City Square Mall Ceiling Collapse Floods Basement Level
Water reportedly gushed out from the ceiling before the collapse happened. An employee from a nearby eatery heard a loud splashing sound and witnessed water pouring from the ceiling.
Everyone in the outlet swiftly ran out.
The ceiling collapsed after seven to eight seconds. Thankfully, no one was hurt in the incident.
Ceiling panels fell onto tables and the floor inside the restaurant. Wires were left sticking out from the damaged ceiling.
The store’s sign was hanging loose and became dislodged.
Brown-coloured water cascaded into the premises and seeped across the floor outside the outlet.
One customer’s entire body was drenched and covered in mud from the incident. Their bag, left behind during the evacuation, was thoroughly soaked after being submerged in water for about 30 minutes.
Another customer was so shocked by the event that they burst into tears. The affected customer left their particulars with the manager and wondered whether they would receive compensation.
Farrer Park MRT Access Disrupted by Extensive Water Damage
The flooding was not limited to the KFC outlet alone.
Large puddles formed in the basement area outside Wingstop. The entire area outside the neighbouring restaurant was swamped with water.
The flooding even reached the underpass leading to Farrer Park MRT station. People were seen walking through ankle-deep water in the flooded underpass and mall entrance.
Signs were placed to advise shoppers to access Farrer Park MRT station via Level 1 instead.
A group of bystanders crowded around the area as a security officer guarded the scene. Cleaners were spotted at around 9:34pm outside the outlet.
A witness described the water as brown, dirty-looking, and initially bad-smelling. The stench disappeared after a while.
The incident was unexpected because the affected KFC outlet had been renovated just three to four months ago. City Square Mall had recently completed renovations according to its press release on 26 May 2025.
