Prospective BTO couples… heads up.
HDB has unveiled a grand new announcement, and it’s one that will certainly satiate your vigorous appetite for that new, live-in estate.
And lest you’re wondering, mature estates will be included in the mix too.
HDB Planning to Launch 17K BTO Flats in 2021 & Some Are in Mature Estates
HDB is set to launch some 17,000 BTO flats in the coming year – a record which is similar to that of 2020.
The announcement was unveiled via a Facebook post, courtesy of Minister for National Development Desmond Lee.
According to the post, a healthy mix of flats will be made available in both mature and non-mature estates.
Non-mature estates would entail the likes of Bukit Batok and Woodlands, while mature estates include Bidadari in Toa Payoh and Ulu Pandan in Queenstown.
However, the Minister also warned that with the current economic uncertainty (attributable to the pandemic), the housing market will be scrutinised closely.
If need be, the supply may be calibrated accordingly.
“Designing for Life”
Apparently, new public housing developments will enjoy certain features under the novel “Designing for Life” roadmap – a notion which was launched by HDB this year.
Examples include smart lighting and electric-vehicle ready carparks.
“Homeowners can look forward to features which will help make our towns and estates more liveable, efficient, sustainable and safe.
“For example, features such as smart lighting, smart pneumatic waste conveyance systems, and electric-vehicle ready carparks will be provided in many of these new estates.”
Greenery will also be implemented.
“In coming up with the housing plans, HDB has engaged and taken in the feedback of various partners, including nature groups, to try and strike a balance between conservation and developmental needs,” Mr Lee said.

The announcement has since attracted positive response.
Declaration
Lest you’re unaware, the revelation was originally announced last year.
On 16 December 2019, former National Development Minister Lawrence Wong (now Education Minister) stated that more flats will be established to meet increasing demand for public housing.
In his own words, the Government was “doubling down on our efforts to build affordable flats and good homes for all Singaporeans”.
Two major policy moves were also unveiled in September 2019 to assist young couples with their home ventures – the income ceilings to purchase new flats were heightened, and the Enhanced CPF Housing Grant was officially introduced.
The latter allows families to receive up to S$80,000 in grants when they purchase a new Housing and Development Board (HDB) flat, and up to S$160,000 in grants when they go for a resale flat (in the open market).
“These changes will lead to greater demand for public housing,” Mr Wong said at the time.
