4-Room BTO in Geylang is So Popular, For Every 1 Flat, 14 People Applied For It
There’s a new block in town, and couples are going crazy over it.
In the August HDB BTO exercise, more than 6,000 applicants bid for a group of 4-room flats at Geylang named Dakota One, according to HDB.
Since there are 334 four-room flats available, this means that an average of 14 applicants are vying for each unit.
Competition is mighty stiff, to say the least.

According to The Straits Times, this is the highest application rate in recent years.
The record was previously held by a group of four-room flats in Ang Mo Kio in last November’s BTO launch, where there were around 13 applicants for each flat.
Reader: But why? Why is this Geylang housing project so popular?
Well, it’s walking distance from Dakota MRT station.
Reader: Sure… but there must be something else.

Oh, it’s also walking distance from the Old Airport Road Food Centre.
Reader: Ah, that explains everything.
Competition is even tougher for second-time applicants of the four-room flats, with 96 applicants vying for each unit.
The 87 three-room flats in Geylang were less popular, however, with just five applicants each.
5-Room Flats In AMK Highly Sought After Too
A total of 7,862 flats were put up for sale in HDB’s most recent BTO exercise.

The 140 five-room flats in Ang Mo Kio were also highly sought after, with almost 12 first-time applicants for each unit.
These flats also happen to be the most expensive in the exercise, with prices ranging from $571,000 to $725,000, according to ST.
Parc Residences @ Tengah, the new BTO that’ll be a completely car-free town with all roads built underground, was also in high demand.
There were around five applicants for each of the 184 five-room flats, the highest application rate in Tengah since 2018.
Subsequent BTO Exercises
According to ST, HDB will launch another BTO exercise in November, where 5,700 flats in Bishan, Sembawang, Tampines, Tengah and Toa Payoh will be on offer.
Another 3,550 flats in Bukit Batok, Tengah, Kallang/Whampoa and Bidadari will be launched in February next year.

HDB added that some of their flats in the current launch may take up to five years to build, due to construction safety measures introduced in light of Covid-19.
