When you’re drunk, the world can look very different to you mainly because alcohol gives you a sense of liberation.
It’s like suddenly, it doesn’t matter what other people say or what the rules are – you are going to do you.
Whether it is to hug every single stranger at the pub during a pandemic, or do something even more reckless like drinking and driving… to hell to the consequences!
Well, for this 26-year-old driver, his life is about to be turned upside down just because he mixed drinking with driving.
Drive Until the Wheel Came Off
On 28 August 2021, a series of photos were posted on Reddit showing a black Mercedes that was involved in an accident.
The photos were posted on Facebook as well.
It was believed that the Mercedes lost control when it was trying to make a left turn from Bukit Batok West Avenue 6 heading towards Bukit Batok East Avenue 6.
The car rammed into the “Bukit Batok West Avenue 6” road sign, and was sent hurling across the divider to the opposing side.
It ended up stopping in the middle of the road while facing oncoming traffic.
Besides the innocent road sign that was unfortunately in the path of the out-of-control car, the damage to the car itself was pretty extensive.
Other than having a portion of its front bumper caved in, the entire wheel, along with the shock absorber, and driveshaft came out.
The screenwriters for the next Fast and Furious movie should definitely take note!
A netizen on Facebook also commented that when he passed by that stretch of the road at around 7:00am, there were already a lot of police cars at the scene.
Some were directing traffic, while others were inspecting the vehicle.
Another left a comment saying that the drunk driver escaped from the scene after the accident which happened at around 6:35am today.
However, when asked by a reporter from Shin Min Daily, the police stated that they have managed to arrest the 26-year-old driver involved in the drunk driving incident.
The investigation into the accident is also currently underway.
The Penalty for Drink Driving
According to the Road Traffic Act, if a person is found guilty of driving under the influence of alcohol and that their alcohol level exceeds the legal limit, the person faces up to a year in prison, is given a fine between S$2,000 to S$10,000, and is barred from driving for at least two years.
But that’s for first-time offenders.
For re-offenders, the penalties are definitely a lot harsher.
