Forget Shake Shack, everyone.
If there’s the famous burger joint at Jewel, there’s also a hidden jewel in the West that rivals it.
Burgers have always been a popular food option.

Particularly this year with the opening of the famed American Shake Shack chain, A&W Singapore, and Lobster Burger in the first half of the year.
Five Guys is also set to open at the end of 2019, and everyone’s buzzing about the news.
But They’re Pricey
All these fancy burger chains, while well-known and deliciously atas, have the power to burn in a hole in your wallet as well. There is barely any spotlight is on homegrown burger brands, which serve up gourmet burgers like the big chains at considerably lesser prices.
Or they’re just not that easily found and don’t have the same marketing push that franchises have.
So… what if I told you that there really is one such homegrown burger stall, in a hawker centre no less, that fits all the criteria of gourmet burger standards AND is affordable? Sounds too good to be true, right?
Meet Hammee’s
Located in the humble Commonwealth Crescent Market and Food Centre,
Hammee’s is a homegrown hawker stall that specialises in yummy gourmet burgers. They were actually a white bee hoon stall before but decided to make the switch to selling burgers from just last year onwards.
As of now, they only have three burgers on their menu – Classic Beef Cheeseburger, Premium Beef Cheeseburger and Fried Chicken Burger. All of which look like they pack a huge punch.

The best part is that you’re getting a gourmet burger for a price that may very well be half of the ones sold in gourmet burger chains.
Classic Beef Cheeseburger
You can’t ever go wrong with the classics.
LOOK. AT. THAT.

One of the most popular menu items at Hammee’s, the Classic Beef Cheeseburger consists of toasted burger buns, caramelised onions, American cheese, a handmade beef patty, chopped pickled jalapenos and their own homemade burger sauce.
It goes for $6 for a single patty or $8 for double patties. You may also choose to add on lettuce and tomatoes for an extra $0.50, smoked bacon for an extra $2 or dill pickles for an extra $0.50.
If you’re not already hungry after seeing that glorious meaty delicacy, hang on tight because you’re gonna get even hungrier.
Premium Beef Cheeseburger
It’s basically the Classic Beef Cheeseburger, but with MORE inclusions. Perfect for those who feel like they can eat a whole horse because they’re just that hungry.

The premium burger is made up of toasted burger buns, fresh lettuce and tomato slices, crispy smoked bacon, caramelised onions, American cheese, 120g handmade beef patty, chopped pickled jalapenos and homemade burger sauce.
It’s sold at $8, but you can add smoked bacon for an additional $2.
Just thinking about the juicy beef patty is enough to make anyone cry.
Fried Chicken Burger
If beef’s not your thing, fret not, for they also have an equally appetising fried chicken burger.

It’s a rather simple affair, the burger is made of toasted burger buns, homemade slaw, crispy fried chicken thigh and Hammee’s burger sauce. If you’re craving something crispy instead, then this burger would be a great option.
You can choose between original and spicy, both of which costs $5.50 – totally worth it.
All burgers are served with a side of crispy fries prepared specially by Hammee’s.
How To Get There
This is the one time I, as an Eastie, will say that you’re blessed if you live in the West, for you can easily access the stall.
