Road accidents are always unfortunate, especially when you’re supposed to be on tour.
Early this morning on 10 July, a tour bus from Singapore crashed into a car in Malaysia.
Two were killed, while five were seriously injured.
The Accident Occurred Along the North-South Expressway
The accident occurred along the North-South expressway heading up north.
A La Holidays coach collided with a Proton Wira.
According to Sin Chew Daily, the tour bus had departed from Singapore and was set to arrive at Kuala Lumpur.
There were 19 passengers on the bus.
The passengers were from different countries, including the Philippines, Spain, Canada, India, Singapore and China.
Five were seriously injured by the accident, while two were killed.
The two people who did not survive the accident were the bus driver and a passenger, an Indonesian woman.
The three Singaporean passengers on the bus, 69-year-old Mr Ghazali Mustaffa, his son 35-year-old Muhammad Siddiq Ghazali and 25-year-old Mr Low Jah Seng, escaped with minor injuries.
Fortunately, the Malaysian driver of the Proton Wira sedan was unscathed.
However, his pregnant wife sustained minor injuries.
The couple was heading north as well.
Photos provided by the Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia (JBPM) showed the damage the white tour bus’s exterior sustained.
Notably, the photos showed debris everywhere.
The photos also showed rescuers tending to the wounded.
The bus and the car involved in the accident were left in a ditch by the side of the road.
Facebook Post by JBPM
The JBPM made a statement on the accident via a Facebook post.
It wrote, “JBPM Negeri Sembilan received an emergency call about a road accident at 5.05 am that occurred at 285.5km towards Kuala Lumpur.”
The JBPM mentioned that seven firefighters rushed to the scene after the call.
According to Operations Director Shahrudin bin Mohd Din, there were 22 victims involved in the accident.
The Facebook post said 15 victims could not be identified as they were sent to the hospital for their injuries.
The police in Malaysia said that investigations are currently ongoing.
The cause of the accident is also being investigated.
Operations Director Shahrudin bin Mohd Din said that the authorities will give updates on the situation.
Local media reported that as of 8.14 am, the left lane of the expressway was open for traffic to pass through.
However, the accident reportedly caused traffic congestion to stretch up to 14km.
According to The Straits Times, operators for the LA Holidays express bus service operators declined to comment on the accident.
