A fatal accident on Malaysia’s North-South Expressway left one dead and 28 injured when an express bus lost control and crashed into a signpost early on 11 Oct 2025, reported The Star.​
The Super Nice bus was travelling from Boon Lay, Singapore, to Ipoh, Perak, when the incident occurred at approximately 3.15am local time at the 293km mark near Bangi.​
The Accident
The 60-year-old Malaysian driver lost control of the bus, causing it to veer into a ditch before ramming into a pole. A total of 29 people were on board, comprising 24 Malaysians and five Singaporeans, including the driver.​
The victim was identified as Chew Sin Heng, a 59-year-old Malaysian man who worked in Singapore’s construction sector. He was seated at the front of the bus and died from severe head injuries.​
Emergency Response
Eighteen firefighters from Bangi, Seri Kembangan, and KLIA Fire Stations were dispatched to the scene.​
Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar, assistant director of operations at the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department, confirmed that Chew was found trapped in the vehicle and pronounced dead by medical staff at the scene. Three passengers had managed to exit the bus before rescue personnel arrived.​
Treatment and Hospitalisation
All 28 injured passengers, including the five Singaporeans, received initial treatment at the accident site. They were subsequently transported to five different hospitals for further care.​
The injured were admitted to Hospital Sultan Idris Shah Serdang, Hospital Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin Kajang, Hospital Putrajaya, Hospital Cyberjaya, and Hospital Tuanku Ja’afar Seremban.​
Police Investigation
Kajang police chief Naazron Abdul Yusof said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving causing death.
If convicted, the driver faces imprisonment of five to 10 years, a fine not exceeding RM50,000 (~S$15,360), and disqualification from holding a driving licence for at least five years.​
