Yesterday, the multi-ministry task force outlined the three phases of reopening in the press conference.
There are three phases: Safe Re-opening (Phase 1), Safe Transition (Phase 2) and Safe Nation (Phase 3).
You can read all about it here.
With phase 1, more workplaces are going to open, and it seems that LTA and the transport operators do take lessons from the past.
More Trains & Buses Will Be Available Come 2 June So We Can Still Keep a Safe Distance
According to our esteemed transport minister, Mr Khaw Boon Wan, the authorities will increase the number of buses and trains to the “maximum”.
He mentioned that during CB, it’s possible for safe distancing to be carried out on public transport.
But after 2 June, it’ll be hard to do so, even with the increased number of buses and trains, especially during peak hours.

Asks Commuters To Keep Quiet On Public Transport
He assures commuters that community spread in Singapore is “low” right now. This means that the risk of contracting the infection while riding on public transport is low.
However, that doesn’t mean we should let down our guards.
Previously, Mr Khaw told Singaporeans to keep quiet on public transport.
Come 2 June, he’s requesting for us to do so again.
Wear a mask at all time, maintain personal hygiene and avoid talking loudly on the phone or to each other.
Transport operators are doing their parts as well, having stepped up cleaning regimes and applying anti-microbial chemical coating on all “high-touched” surfaces.
Things To Expect From Phase 1:
Here’s the TL; DR that you need to know about phase 1.
- Most Shops Still Cannot Open
- Certain Businesses Can Now Operate
- Dine-In Still Not Allowed
- Most Offices Can Open
- Still No Social Gathering
- Can Visit Parents or Grandparents
- Basic Training in SPF, SAF and SCDF Will Resume Even Earlier
- Schools Reopen…in a Weird Way
Of course, these phases aren’t set in stone and the moment a spike in the number of cases appears, we might just roll all the way back to CB.
