Before the government’s announcement yesterday, you may have thought that every single business in the country would be allowed to reopen the minute the clock struck 12am on 2 June.
This is not the case, as the country will be gradually easing circuit breaker measures in three phases.
The Ministry of Health (MOH) said that businesses that “do not pose a high risk of transmission” will be resumed in Phase 1, but what exactly does this mean?

Broadly speaking, the following sectors will be allowed to resume operations from 2 June.
- Manufacturing and production
- Finance and insurance
- Wholesale trade (excluding retail storefronts)
- Transport and storage
- Professional services
But here are a few businesses in particular that you may be happy to have back.
Hairdressers
You’ve probably already gone for a much-needed haircut since basic haircut services resumed on 12 May, but now you can do a multitude of unnecessary things to your hair.
Want to dye your hair pink? Have an urgent need to curl or straighten your hair because you’ll be returning to the outside world? Fortunately for you, hairdressers and barbers will be allowed to resume all services, beyond just basic haircut services on 2 June.
Basic Pet Services
Does your dog look like Cousin Itt from The Adam’s Family?
If so, you’ll be able to take it down to a pet groomer to get a much-needed trim.
In addition to basic grooming, physiotherapy and rehabilitation services for pets will also be resumed on 2 June.
Vehicle Servicing
Your car might be lonelier than you are at the moment because you’ve not been taking it out much during the circuit breaker.

Vehicle servicing will be allowed to resume on 2 June as well, so if your car needs a little TLC from your mechanic, it can finally get it.
Air-Con Servicing
Have you been sleeping in an ocean of your own sweat for the last few weeks? If your aircon is spoiled and your sibling refuses to share a room with you, it can get pretty warm, even with a fan.
Lucky for you, air-con servicing will also resume on 2 June, so you’ll finally be able to sleep with cool air blowing over you through the night.
School Bookshops and Retail Shops selling School Uniforms
If your son’s school uniform has been dirtied beyond redemption, you’ll be glad to know that you can get him a fresh new one on 2 June before he goes back to school.
School bookshops will also reopen, in case your child needs to purchase any school textbooks or stationery before her classes resume.

Equipment/Vehicle Renting and Leasing
Need to rent a car? You’ll soon be able to do this too.
This is handy if you need a vehicle to go to work, or if you’ve lost the ability to walk 5 metres without getting tired after nearly six weeks of being a lazy bastard.
The six businesses listed here are the ones we’ve all been waiting for, but here is the complete list of businesses that will be permitted to reopen on 2 June:
