Singaporeans love our chicken rice. It’s a representative of our food culture to the entire world.

Dare I say, it’s even more representative than our Chilli crab.

Crabs are reserved for people with high-SES. Low SES people like me? We go the chicken rice way.

So when we saw that Buzzfeed’s Tasty actually featured Hainanese Chicken Rice?

We almost cried.

And to top it off, this isn’t an adapted recipe made by some ang moh.

It’s actually a grandmother’s recipe for making chicken rice and was taught by someone who grew up on the streets of Singapore.

Yes, someone who stayed in HDB flats and go through PSLE like us.

Meet Niki Ang, the girl on the video who spoke fondly about her childhood in Singapore.

She knew what she was talking about.

Potluck, the hot climate here and how we love our food.

Plus, she uses really Asian methods in preparing the food. Like stuffing the chicken’s ass with ginger, salt and green onions to make the chicken smell better.

You can watch the video yourself here.

Except…there’s a potential Oops in the video.

Here, take a look yourself.

PappaRich Australia posted two ads on their official Facebook Page to promote their $2 Nasi Lemak promotion in September last year.

Let’s just say that it didn’t really end well for them.

The company was forced to delete the pictures after social media started throwing shade at the company.

It didn’t help that PappaRich originated from Malaysia as well.

Not The First Time Buzzfeed Did Something Embarrassing

Remember this?

Yup, Buzzfeed labelled this as one of the weirdest sandwiches (you kidding me?!) to eat on earth.

And a shitstorm happened.

But this guy said it best.

Conclusion? You can mess with our transport system, our fast-paced culture and expensive cars, but never mess with our food.
