On 30 July, many of us found our jaws dropping at the news of the mass food poisoning incident at Singapore’s Bytedance office located at One Raffles Quay — yes, Bytedance as in the parent company of TikTok, the content platform we all know and love.
A total of 17 people were hospitalised after the mass food poisoning incident, with approximately 169 people at the office reportedly suffering gastroenteritis.
And what was one thing the 169 people at the office had in common?
No, it’s not merely that they’re all Bytedance employees. The answer is that all of them had consumed food supplied by two caterers — Pu Tien and Yun Nans. More specifically, Pu Tien’s Senoko catering kitchen, and Yun Nans’ Northpoint City outlet.
As a result, the SFA decided to suspend the food business operations of the two caterers the day following the food poisoning incident.
You won’t be able to see the two caterers the same way ever again.

SFA Lifts Suspension on Pu Tien’s Senoko Catering Kitchen; Yun Nans’ Northpoint City Outlet Remains Suspended
However, there’s good news for Pu Tien’s Senoko catering kitchen — SFA has just decided to lift the suspension of Pu Tien’s Senoko catering kitchen.
On 10 Aug, SFA and the Ministry of Health (MOH) shared in a joint statement: “As the licensee has implemented the required measures as stipulated by SFA, operations can be resumed.”
These measures included disposing of all ready-to-eat food, thawed food as well as perishable food items, cleaning and sanitising the catering kitchen’s premises, and having food handlers re-attending and passing a food safety course.
The food hygiene officers at Pu Tien’s Senoko catering kitchen also had to re-attend and pass the Workforce Skills Qualification Conduct food and beverage hygiene audit course.

Regardless, even with the suspension lifted, SFA will continue to watch Pu Tien closely to ensure the caterer follows food safety requirements.
Pu Tien has also confirmed that its laboratory results showed that all food samples taken from the food delivered to Bytedance’s office the day of the mass food poisoning incident met SFA’s food safety regulations.
So, that’s one of the two caterers responsible for the Bytedance mass food poisoning saga settled — what about the other caterer, Yun Nans?
Well, Yun Nans’ Northpoint City outlet remains suspended, and it appears that its suspension will only be lifted after it has implemented all necessary measures as stipulated by SFA.
