As you know, while getting vaccinated against COVID-19 is strongly encouraged, it is not mandatory in Singapore, and remains a personal choice.
But getting vaccinated is seen by some as a social responsibility of sorts. After all, it’s not just yourself you’ll be protecting, but those around you as well.
Unlike some residents who can afford to go without the vaccine because their jobs do not entail much human interaction, it’s crucial for those in the service sector to do so.
7 in 10 of Cab Drivers and Private-Hire Car Drivers Received Their First COVID-19 Vaccination Dose; Almost Half of them Completed Both Dose
Over 70% of cabbies and private-hire car (PHC) drivers here have received their first COVID-19 vaccination dose, with nearly half having completed both doses.
The positive statistic was shared by Transport Minister Ong Ye Kung in a Facebook post today morning (10 Apr).
“The next time you take a taxi or private hire car, it is very likely that your driver has been vaccinated against Covid-19,” he said.
What’s more, nearly 85% of active taxi and PHC drivers have registered to be vaccinated, according to Senior Minister of State for Transport Amy Khor.
As Ms Khor said, this will not only protect themselves and their families, but their passengers too.
“We hope the rest of the drivers who have yet to sign up will step forward soon. Take care and drive safe,” she said.
“Thanks to our drivers for stepping up and making taxi and PHC rides safer,” Mr Ong wrote in his post.
Singapore Residents Under 45 Can Get Vaccine From June
Here’s some good news for Singapore residents under 45: you’ll be able to book your slots for COVID-19 vaccination from June, if everything goes as planned.
As of 6 Apr, 535,000 individuals have completed their vaccination programmes, while over 1.1 million have received at least one dose.
The government has observed a strong response to the vaccination drive in older residents: 60% of eligible seniors aged 70 and above and nearly 70% of eligible seniors aged 60 to 69 have received the vaccination or made appointments.
Once residents register for the vaccine, they’ll receive an invitation through SMS to make an appointment.
At the moment, those aged 45-49 are receiving SMS invitations to make appointments, and 17% have already registered so far.
The country has a total of 31 vaccination centres nationwide, which will increase to 40 by mid-April.
There may be limited booking slots for eligible residents at certain times, however, as vaccine supplies, just like your colleague, don’t always arrive on time.
