It’s been some time since the cafe golden days but one thing you can’t deny is the creativity of cafes, whether it be the theme, the food or both.

And you got to admit that our taste for the weird, strange and disgusting has increased pretty drastically when you see droves of people going to a toilet cafe of all places. Places where you eat out sh*t-styled food out of toilet bowls.

So when we came across this cafe concept, we knew we had to share it with you.

Ziferblat, The Cafe That Gives You Free Food, But There’s a Catch

And here comes Ziferblat, the cafe that literally embodies the saying: time is money.

In this cafe, a buffet is laid out for you; free to take, free to consume. The sky’s the limit, or should I say, your stomach’s the limit.

But you do have to serve yourself and wash up after you’re done.

And The Owner is Fully Prepared for Kiasu People

The owner, Colin Shenton, is fully prepared for people to take advantage of the system.

He doesn’t care if people ran in, eat as much as they can for five minutes and run out of the door to throw up.

He said, “we wouldn’t complain.”

A System Based on Trust and Respect

The cafe trusts its customers to respect the space and, in turn, offerS them a place where there’s good WiFi, newspapers, and board games.

In turn, the customers are happy that they no longer feel the pressure to leave the cafe. One of them related the experience of being eyed and pressured to leave by other cafes because she only bought a cup of coffee and stayed for hours.

At Ziferblat, there’s no such pressure and you’re free to stay as long as you want at US$0.07 (S$0.10) a minute.

It Seems To Be Working So Far

It’s said that the average amount of time spent in the cafe is 83 minutes and it’s four times longer than other cafes.

Imagine how successful this concept will be in Singapore where our students love studying at cafes or coffee places.

Either that or drive all its customers to Starbucks.
