New Café at Prinsep That Looks Exactly Like Old-School HDB Flat
There’s a new café on Prinsep Street that looks exactly like an old-school HDB flat.
Introducing: Lou Shang (楼上) by Mama Diam.
There, you’ll be able to step into the carefree days of your childhood again, dining in the “HDB corridors” of the café and enjoying old-school-inspired food and beverages.
The first step? To take the “lift” to Lou Shang.
Once you step into the lift, it’s almost like stepping into Narnia. You’ll be welcomed by the familiar sight of an old-school HDB corridor, complete with nostalgic window shutters and national flags hanging along the corridor.
The only thing missing is the sound of that one auntie constantly singing Karaoke or blasting Taiwanese dramas at at full volume on the TV.
The bar at the café is also bound to bring you back in time as well.
If it doesn’t, you’re too young to be here—go play your Valorant or whatever it is that youngsters play these days.
It’s just a pity it’s not an uncle with that “good morning” towel making your drinks for you.
Old-School-Inspired Food and Beverages
Mala? Pfft. Salted egg? Pfft.
Lou Shang’s food is better than that.
At the newly-opened café, you’ll find various old-school-inspired food and beverages, including Rainbow Roti, Chilli Crab Tortellini and Pandan Kaya Latte.
Oi. Stop drooling leh.
Other items on the menu include Roti Hey! and Tutu Kueh. What’s not to love?
That’s not all. The café also transforms into a cocktail bar once the clock strikes 6 pm—this means you’ll be able to enjoy many mouth-watering old-school-inspired drinks.
One of these drinks is the Kopi & Dream, which we’re sure many of you caffeine addicts would love.
Any raspberry ripple ice cream fans here? If your answer is yes, there’s an Instagram-worthy drink at Lou Shang made just for you, too: the Raspberry Ripple, literally.
Other drinks at the bar you could try include Where Wonder Blooms and Evergreen.
Hopefully, the pricing at the café is more old-school as well. Ah, the days when caifan was just $2…
So, what are you waiting for? The café officially opens its doors to the public on Tuesday (22 Aug) and will be open daily from 9 am to 5 pm.
The cocktail bar will be open during the following hours:
- Tuesday to Thursday: 6 pm to 11 pm
- Friday and Saturday: 6 pm to 12 am
Monday, don’t need a drink yet lah hor?
