The incident began when Singapore Police Force officers were patrolling along Syed Alwi Road towards Jalan Besar at about 5:45am. Officers spotted a car parked haphazardly along the road and stopped to check on the driver.

The 25-year-old male driver suddenly fled from the vehicle, prompting officers to give chase. Police eventually caught the man and sent him to the hospital in a conscious state. He was wanted by police for prior traffic-related offences.

Woman Takes Wheel and Crashes into Lorry During Police Pursuit

While officers were arresting the male driver, a 25-year-old female passenger took over the wheel and drove the car away. Police located the vehicle along Syed Alwi Road, but it sped away when officers approached.

The car collided with a lorry during the escape attempt. A 30-year-old lorry driver told Shin Min Daily News that the blue car was behind him and kept sounding its horn. The driver appeared eager to escape from the police but could not overtake on the one-way street.

When the lorry reached the junction, a police car was positioned there with its sirens blaring. More police vehicles entered the street from behind, completely surrounding the blue car.

The car stopped after colliding with the lorry.

Besides damage from the lorry collision, the blue car had sustained damage on the other side, suggesting it may have crashed into other vehicles too.
