When I passed my driving test on the second try, I was ecstatic; I had passed an incredibly difficult test with some inexplicable exercises, like the S-course.
Have you ever seen an S-shaped road in Singapore?
I was practically skipping with glee but was told that I had to watch a video about road safety before I could collect my license.
I expected a boring video with a guy monotonously listing the things we should and should not do on the road, but instead I was treated to a short gore film that the makers of Saw would have been proud of.
There were overturned cars, bleeding bodies, and other unmentionable things. After that, I became too scared to drive for a couple of weeks.
And if you look at this video of a car crash on the ECP, you might feel the same way.
Car Crashed Into Road Dividers & Went Up In Flames On ECP Yesterday (4 Jan) Morning
A car caught fire in the middle of the East Coast Parkway (ECP) after it crashed into the road divider on Saturday morning (4 Jan).
According to the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), two people were examined for injuries by its paramedics but they refused its offer to take them to hospital.
Thankfully, the fire was eventually put out by its officers using two water jets.
According to The Straits Times, the accident happened on the expressway in the direction of Changi Airport, after the Bayshore exit.
In a video of the accident, the car slowly shifts from the right lane to the middle, but then it suddenly swerves to the right again and crashes into the divider.
We can’t be sure, but it looks like the driver may not have been paying attention to the road as he changed lanes, and when he looked up, he saw that he was about to hit the car in front of him and veered to the right to avoid a collision.
You can watch the video of the accident on Roads.sg.
Another video shows the car lodged in the shrubbery along the divider, with black smoke billowing from it.
At least three people can be seen taking shelter after the accident near the divider while another man stands by the burning car.
According to Roads.sg, the three people standing by the car are the car’s passengers. They added that there seem to be no major injuries.
Investigations are ongoing.
Never take your eyes off the road
If you’re an experienced driver, you may take road safety for granted. Many of us use our phones while we’re driving, which is an incredibly dangerous thing to do.
No matter how experienced you are, never take your eyes off the road or you’ll endanger your life and the lives of your passengers.
