2020 is a year we wish can be cancelled.
We mourn the passing of many celebrities and sigh out loud when we hear of companies undergoing retrenchment.
With so many negative news swirling around, it gets kinda tough to remain zen.
While such news is unavoidable, there are still acts of kindness going around, which makes us feel so much better.
Man Left Note To Inform Car Owner Of Dent
A Facebook user, Tong Yee, shared his encounter of a kind gesture on Facebook yesterday.
While walking back to his car after an early breakfast meeting on September 23, Yee noticed a slip of paper on the windscreen.
The writer of the note also left his number, requesting for Mr Tong Yee to contact him, which he subsequently did.
In the text message conversation screenshots shared by Yee, he thanked the man for his integrity and mentioned that it was encouraging to receive a note from him.
Yee then consulted the man on his opinion to proceed for this incident.
The man, who identified himself as Shamsul, apologised for his carelessness and took responsibility for the damage caused.
He went on to ask Yee for his suggestion on how to solve this matter.
Car Owner Offers To Top Up The Difference
Yee suggested a repayment of $200 for the dent.
He also kindly offered to pay for the difference in amount himself, should the repair cost exceed $200.
Shamsul was agreeable to his suggestion but had a small request.
He asked if he could pay next week when his “salary comes in”.
Agreeing, Yee even said that Shamsul can pay in instalments of $50 per month if he needs to.
Appreciative of Mr Shamsul’s honesty and the act of integrity, Mr Tong Yee offered to take Mr Shamsul out for dinner as a thank you gesture.
Heartwarming Message:
Yee also penned a personal message to Mr Shamsul in his Facebook post.
He wrote:
Dearest Shamsul,
I have not met you yet but I want to say that you really encouraged me. I’ve been quite stressed recently. But you brought me a release that I needed. I will do my utmost in making sure you are honored for your integrity.
And if you really are a foreign national working here, then bless you. It’s a privilege to have you working with us. Grateful for you. And I will do my utmost in making sure your time with us is honored.
The post drew over 5,000 shares when it was posted.
One kind netizen left a comment, offering to cover the cost of repair:
In the comment, it was mentioned that the netizen had received financial aid after hitting a car some time back. He thus wanted to pay this kind act forward.
Yee replied that his friend who owns a car repair shop has offered to fix the car. He also mentioned that others have also stepped forward to offer their assistance.
He ended his reply by saying that he will inform Mr Shamsul about the kind acts from the public.
In trying times like this, it is heartening to hear such feel-good stories.
Also an applaudable act by Mr Shamsul who admitted his mistake and answered for his own actions.
Now, I must quickly inform my mum that I was the one who spilt the Ribena on the table. Not Ginger the cat.
