Losing a car in Singapore due to theft is akin to finding a influencer who eats an expensive meal without posting about it online: it’s near impossible.
But this happened in Sengkang; and if not for a camera, no one might know what has happened.
Man Went to Sengkang Carpark & Found That His Car Has Been Secretly Driven Away by Teenagers for a Joyride
Six teenagers were caught red-handed after they returned a stolen car to the same carpark where they had taken it. The group included five boys aged 14 to 16 and one 13-year-old girl.
The incident happened at Block 457 multi-storey carpark along Sengkang West Road on Tuesday (29 October) at around 11:30 PM.
The car owner, a 37-year-old events manager, had parked his car on the second floor with his wife around 7:30 PM.
Four hours later, discovered his car missing when he went to retrieve his camera from the vehicle.
Instead, he found another vehicle in his parking spot.
After calling his wife to confirm the parking location, they realized their car had been stolen and called the police.
I mean, if it were me, I’ll think that I’ve stepped into another universe instead.
But here’s the thing: It’s unlocked.
“We use a key to open the car door, which sometimes triggers the alarm system. Because of this, we occasionally leave the car unlocked with the keys inside,” he explained to Shin Min Daily News.
And in what seemed like a Netflix drama, while police officers were taking their statement, he heard his car’s engine sound approaching the carpark. The vehicle slowly drove up to the second floor.
The driver hesitated on the ramp after spotting the police officers but continued moving forward. Two officers quickly stopped the car and ordered everyone out.
Yes, it was the car.
The teenagers, who lived in the Punggol area, had picked up friends for a joyride after stealing the car. The car showed no signs of damage.
When asked to show identification, some of the teens produced student passes instead.
Police confirmed the arrest of the six teenagers and investigations are ongoing.
