A tragic accident in Johor Bahru has claimed the life of a one-year-old girl after her father accidentally ran over her while backing up his car at their family home.

Fatal Incident at Taman Desa Harmoni Home Leaves Family Devastated
The heartbreaking incident occurred at approximately 2:30 AM on 29 Mar 2025 at a residence in Taman Desa Harmoni, Johor Bahru, when what should have been a routine movement of a vehicle turned into an unimaginable tragedy.

According to Seri Alam District Police Chief ACP Mohd Sohaimi Ishak, the 27-year-old father was reversing his car out of the garage in the early hours of the morning when he suddenly heard a disturbing noise coming from the rear left tire of his vehicle.
The father immediately stopped the car upon hearing the unusual sound.
When he exited his vehicle to investigate the source of the noise, he was confronted with every parent’s worst nightmare – his young daughter lying behind the car.
The child was found in a critical condition, bleeding and unconscious, on the ground behind the vehicle.
The police report indicates that the young girl had been in the vicinity of the car without the father’s knowledge at the time he began reversing.
In a state of panic and desperate to save his daughter’s life, the father immediately scooped up the critically injured toddler and rushed her to Sultan Ismail Hospital for emergency medical attention.
Severe Head Injuries Lead to Child’s Death Despite Urgent Medical Efforts
Despite the best efforts of the hospital staff and the father’s quick action in getting her to the hospital, the child had sustained catastrophic trauma.
The medical team was ultimately unable to overcome the significant trauma the child had suffered in the accident.

The child was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Police Investigation Launched with Safety Reminders for All Drivers
Following the fatal accident, local authorities have initiated a formal investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragic event.
The authorities provided details of the investigation in a statement released on 30 Mar 2025.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which specifically covers causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
ACP Mohd Sohaimi urged all drivers to be acutely aware of the location of their children, particularly small children who may not be easily visible from a driver’s position, before starting or operating their vehicles.

The police also reminded all road users to practice heightened caution while driving during the festive season, when accidents typically see an increase.
Additionally, the police chief advised road users to prioritize safety on longer journeys by taking regular breaks at highway rest stops if they begin to feel tired or sleepy while driving, to prevent other types of tragic accidents from occurring.
