American fast food chain Carl’s Jr announced the permanent closure of its Marina Square outlet after 20 years of operations. The chain revealed the news through a Facebook post on 3 Apr 2025.
Founded in California in 1941, Carl’s Jr established itself in Singapore’s fast-food scene in 2005. The chain became known for its meaty chargrilled burgers, offering an alternative to other fast-food options in the country.
First Carl’s Jr Singapore Location Shutting Doors on 13 April
The Marina Square outlet, which opened on 23 Jun 2005, will cease operations on 13 Apr 2025. This location holds special significance as it was the very first Carl’s Jr to open in Singapore, marking the California-based burger chain’s entry into the local fast-food market.

When it first opened, the Marina Square outlet attracted considerable attention. The chain quickly gained popularity for its chargrilled burgers and expanded across Singapore in the following years.
In their Facebook announcement, Carl’s Jr thanked customers for their support throughout the years, stating, “It’s been a pleasure serving you, and we look forward to welcoming you at our other locations.”
With this closure, there will no longer be any Carl’s Jr outlets in Singapore’s downtown area.

- SingPost Centre in Paya Lebar
- KAP Mall in King Albert Park
This latest shutdown continues a pattern of closures for the American burger chain in Singapore.
The Jurong Point outlet closed on 5 Sep 2024, while the Funan branch shut down permanently in August 2022.
The VivoCity outlet, which had operated for 15 years and was one of the mall’s original anchor tenants when it opened in 2006, has also closed.
