A female passenger traveling in business class from Dubai to Malaysia discovered her luggage had been ransacked and cash stolen upon arrival.
Here’s what happened.
Theft Discovered at Kuala Lumpur International Airport
A Malaysian woman who traveled with her boyfriend on a Batik Air flight from Dubai to Malaysia was shocked to find her luggage had been broken into and more than RM 6,000 (~SGD1,800) in cash was missing when they collected their baggage.
The victim, Huang Xiangming (name transliterated from Mandarin), also known as “Diorlyna,” shared her unpleasant flying experience on the social media platform RedNote four days ago, attracting significant attention from netizens.
According to Guang Ming Daily, Huang and her boyfriend boarded a Batik Air flight from Dubai at 4:00 AM local time and arrived at Kuala Lumpur International Airport at 3:30 PM.
Upon collecting their luggage, they noticed signs of tampering with the lock and the zipper wasn’t properly closed.
They immediately approached the airline’s counter to check if any items were missing.
With staff assistance, they opened the luggage to find their belongings in disarray.
Most alarmingly, cash placed inside the luggage was stolen. The lost money included Malaysian Ringgit and currencies from other countries, totaling more than RM 6,000.
Business Class Passengers At Higher Risk, Claims Staff
Huang stated she spent extra money on business class tickets to get better service and protection.
She was stunned when staff allegedly told her that “business class luggage is actually the easiest to steal from.”
“When the staff told me that ‘Business class luggage is the most likely to be stolen.’ I was completely stunned!” she said. “I have no words to express my anger and disappointment!”
The victim has filed a police report, but the airline has not provided any formal response yet.
She stressed she would pursue the matter thoroughly and reminded all travelers to pay special attention to their personal belongings when flying.
Many netizens commented to comfort the victim.
However, some felt that she had been careless to place such a large sum of cash in checked luggage, pointing out this practice always carries theft risks.
Several commenters suggested the theft likely occurred at Dubai Airport before the luggage reached Malaysia.
