Cat on Balcony Fell on Elderly Who Had to be Hospitalised for 23 Days; Cat Ran Off After That

The expression “raining cats and dogs”, as you know, is used to describe a particularly heavy rain. No one knows where exactly the phrase came from, but it is clearly just a saying, because animals can’t possibly fall from the sky.

Right?

Well, you’re forgetting that unlike most animals, the cat is wildly unpredictable.

One minute they’re nuzzling your face and the next they’re scratching you for trying to show it some affection.

Just when we thought we knew everything about these feline creatures, one of them falls from the sky.

Cat on Balcony Fell on Elderly Who Had to be Hospitalised for 23 Days; Cat Ran Off After That

An elderly man in China had to be hospitalised after a cat from an apartment balcony fell on his head.

The bizarre incident occurred on 12 July in the north-eastern Chinese province of Heilongjiang, according to The Sun.

The man, Gao Fenghua, was on a walk with his golden retriever in the city of Harbin.

Surveillance footage shows that the man’s dog was walking slightly ahead of him along a footpath when a cat fell onto the man’s head, leaving him on the floor, unconscious.

The cat immediately darts away – seemingly unscathed – while the man’s dog starts sniffing some grass beside the pavement.

The dog soon realises that something is wrong, and after seeing its injured, motionless owner and having a thorough look around, it realised that there was only one plausble explanation; that a cat was responsible for this.

After locating the cat, the dog corners the feline and tries to scare it, but the cat seems unafraid, and even takes a swipe at the dog.

The poor man had to be hospitalised for 23 days before being discharged, reported The Sun. He wore a neck brace during his recovery and still has to undergo physiotherapy.

Cat Belonged to Victim’s Neighbour

The Daily Star reported that the cat was Gao’s neighbour, and that it had fallen off his neighbour’s balcony.

“I came back home and some neighbours told me that my cat had fallen from my balcony,” the neighbour said.

“I watched the CCTV footage and couldn’t believe it until the police called me to claim my cat.”

The man said he had locked his cat on the balcony because it was in heat.

Gao and his neighbour are reportedly trying to reach an agreement on compensation for the incident.

Gao is asking for a compensation of 150,000 yuan (around S$30,000) which includes the hospital fee and outpatient therapy, but his neighbour is only willing to pay 60,000 yuan (around S$12,000).

If your cat falls out of the sky onto someone’s head, though, you should probably compensate them not just for their medical fees, but for the trauma of having to check the sky for cats every time he goes for a walk now.

Goody Feed has reached out to the cat for comment but it just hissed at us and ran away.
