Cat Cafe Urges Customers Not to Break COVID-19 Rules ‘Coz Closing Down Means Cats Might Starve

Have you ever wanted to be surrounded by loads of fluffy cats?

Imagine just sitting down, sipping your coffee while you bask in the presence of those fluffy felines.

And there’s a real place like this in Singapore by the way.

The Cat Cafe is literally what was described. Order some treats and drinks while interacting kitties, basically heaven for some.

Customer Cat-astrophe

However, the cafe has found themselves in a bit of an unfortunate situation.

The coronavirus has affected many food-related businesses, with a number of them being permanently closed.

By extension, The Cat Cafe would’ve also seen a drop in numbers.

Moreover, in Phase Two, we can only go out in groups of five people at maximum.

To ‘bend’ this, some have resorted to going to places like restaurants in two separate groups – when they obviously know each other.

On 10 September, they released a Facebook post detailing the above issue in their cafe.

Dear customersPlease help us do your part in not coming in groups of more than 5. Especially the case where you…

The post tells customers not to “game the system” by booking multiple tables for different groups.

“When we turn you away, it will spoil your day. It will also decrease our revenue. We have 20+ crew to feed, 26 cats to feed. We can’t afford to close down.”

They end off on a more positive note by saying they did not want to lose people as customers.

The post has been shared 189 times and garnered around 430 reactions as of this writing.

As one comment mentioned, we should support places like this but do so responsibly.

The Cat Cafe has two outlets, one at 241B Victoria Street Level 3 and another at The Rail Mall at 392 Upper Bukit Timah Road.

Your group (of five or less) can book a reservation on their main site here.

Different Cafe But Same Troubles

Unfortunately, they aren’t the only cat cafe suffering from this problem.

Cat Cafe Neko No Niwa has also shown to be facing a similar problem, according to their Facebook post on the same day.

We are still receiving booking requests for more than 5pax per group and many find ways and excuses to get round this…

They mentioned that several customers had also tried to get around the five-person rule and not intentionally take such bookings.

The cafe mentions that their small business cannot afford to be fined or suspended, ending by pleading with customers not to break the rules.

And the comments already echo what we are all thinking.

To support them, you can also make a booking on their main site over here.

Lest you’re not aware, since Wednesday, the authorities aren’t going to “give chance” to F&B establishments for breaking the COVID-19 rules le; they might be shut down even on the first offence:
