Catering Company Fined $5,000 For Cockroach Infestation In Filthy Kitchen

A kitchen should always have a hygiene standard.

Hawker centres should be the bare minimum for decent standards but any worse and we got a Kitchen Nightmare’s situation.

Or as the great chef Gordon Ramsay would say:

I think it goes without saying that a dirty kitchen is not only a hazard to work in but also a danger to the customers eating the food.

Some places though, go beyond dirty and full-on insect infestation.

Crawling Chaos

Actually, flying ones too but we’ll get to that in a second.

Adrian Lim Teck Lien, 42, the sole proprietor of AG (Global) Events Catering, was fined $5,000 after pleading guilty to two charges under the Sale of Food Act.

Why?

Well…we’ve got a slightly disturbing post from Singapore Food Agency’s (SFA) Facebook page to explain.

AG (Global) Events Catering was fined $5,000 by the Court today for improper storage of food and poor maintenance of its…

Sorry if any of you were doing something food-related.

The catering service has provided its services for events like Standard Chartered Marathon in 2013 as well as several government agencies and schools.

According to the post, an inspection on 19 June found cooked food being contaminated by condensate dripping from the unclean ceiling.

The water from the kitchen floor was also splashing onto uncooked meat, along with no soap at washing sinks, help.

This nonsense could literally poison people!

Adrian’s defence was to say that he was busy trying to get more help but by the looks of it, he simply looked like he didn’t care.

Not The First Time

Imagine being this negligent of something that could kill.

Also as a guy with a sensitive stomach, this churns it.

An SFA prosecutor mentioned that the caterer had been warned from carrying such bad practices in 2017 and 2018 before but continued despite it according to The New Paper.

AG (Global) Events Catering also had their licenses suspended twice: once from 4 December to 13 December 2018 and this year from 10 June to 16 July.

Also, remember how we mentioned Adrian was going to get fined $5,000?

Well, in the case of a continuing offence, a further fine up to $100 for every day or part thereof during which the offence continues after conviction.

The SFA doesn’t screw around, man.

“SFA will take enforcement action against food operators who do not adhere to regulations or comply with food hygiene and food safety requirements.”

Well, honestly, no one should stand for bad hygiene practices!

If I eat a piece of bread at a restaurant and your kitchen looks like the Amazon Rainforest, we have a problem.
