Phase Three is going to be happening faster than we think.
Understandable if you forgot, though, especially with how long Phase Two has been going along.
Details on the final phase can be found here, but we’re basically heading back to a new stage of ‘normalcy’.
It’ll probably go on until a proper vaccine is found too. At the very least, things like social and religious gatherings will probably ease up.
Schools, and particularly co-curricular activities (CCAs), are also gearing up to resume more activity as well.
More CCAs Resuming
Not immediately, but soon.
The Ministry of Education (MOE) announced today (7 Oct) that more CCAs will resume for schools.
Some CCAs and low-risk activities have previously resumed around 27 July.
It’ll be around the time the year-end examinations for primary and secondary schools, as well as junior colleges, are over.
Up to 50 students will be allowed to participate in CCAs as opposed to only 20 previously, not counting higher risk activities.
Hence, it is unlikely that high-contact sports such as rugby or taekwondo would resume.
High-touch points and common facilities must be cleaned at the end of each activity or change in groups.
In fact, learning journeys and non-residential activities held at the MOE’s outdoor adventure learning centres will resume mid-October.
Other activities that will resume include inter-school Olympiads and speech and drama programmes.
Plans For Next Year
Of course, that’s just for the immediate future.
The National School Games and Singapore Youth Festival Arts Presentation will also resume starting 2021.
Outward Bound Singapore learning activities will also resume next year.
Regardless, students need still need to keep a 1m distance between each other. If they need to practice unmasked, this will extend to 2m.
Minister of Education and the face of the fight against COVID-19 Lawrence Wong has also made a Facebook post regarding the resuming of CCAs.
We have worked hard so far to keep schools open and to keep learning… Posted by Lawrence Wong on Tuesday, 6 October 2020
“We are taking a careful and deliberate approach in resuming school activities, as these are important elements of our students’ holistic development. We are not going back to how things were before – wearing of masks, safe distancing and testing will be a regular part of school life in future.”
He ends by saying that the “new normal” would help students be in a safe environment.
Some CCAs have even taken parts of their programmes online, though this also comes with varying responses.
It’s a small step, but a necessary one to get school life back on track again.
