New CCTV Footage Shows How BMW Lost Control in Tanjong Pagar
Just before midnight on Tuesday (16 Feb), The Straits Times uploaded footage of the Tanjong Pagar car crash.
Due to the placement of the cameras and quality of the footage, it appears to have been recorded on security cameras.
The video shows the white BMW M4 coupe skidding from side to side rapidly before slamming into the front of a shophouse along Tanjong Pagar road.
At the beginning of the video, we see the BMW speeding along Tanjong Pagar road. The driver appears to have lost control of the vehicle when he swerved slightly to the left.
This caused the car to spin out of control, and it smashes boot-first into the front of a shophouse.
Just fifteen seconds after the crash, the car bursts into flames
Shows Woman Running Towards Burning Car
In the reports that followed the crash, it was said that the girlfriend of the driver ran towards the burning vehicle to try and save her boyfriend.
Nearly twenty seconds after the car is ablaze, another vehicle approaches the area and stops on the left side of the road.
A male driver gets out and heads towards the crash, before turning back and rushing to the side, presumably to get some help from one of the shops.
At the same time, a woman, who came running from outside the frame, darts towards the burning wreck without any regard for her own safety.
Consequently, she suffered severe burns on about 80% of her body and is now fighting for her life in the intensive care unit.
Traffic Police Exploring Enforcement Operations in Tanjong Pagar After Fatal BMW Accident
The Traffic Police said they are exploring further enforcement operations in Tanjong Pagar to ramp up road safety in the vicinity after the accident occurred.
They are also considering the use of road-calming measures, such as road humps and speed regulating strips, which will help slow traffic down.
Saturday’s (13 Feb) accident wasn’t just alarming because of the nature of the crash; the number of fatalities in the accident is also the highest number of people killed in a single traffic accident in the past decade.
MPs for the area said they welcomed extra safety measures to prevent speeding, as residents had complained of loud noises made by speeding cars that had disturbed their sleep.
