The recent rainy spells are inescapable—literally, even if you’re indoors.

A ceiling plate fell off in Jurong Point, leaving a hole in the ceiling which led to a “mini rain” in the mall.

Ceiling Plate Falls Off in Jurong Point’s Prata Wala; Rainwater Starts Seeping Through Hole in the Ceiling

On Saturday (29 April), diners at Jurong Point’s Prata Wala were surprised when it started “raining” from a hole in the ceiling.

According to Shin Min Daily News, the ceiling plate in the Prata Wala store had fallen off, leaving a hole in the ceiling. Since it had rained heavily on Saturday afternoon, rainwater seeped through the hole in the ceiling.

When it rains, it pours. Prata Wala: now presenting an in-store waterfall. If only it were curry instead of rainwater.

As a result of the “mini rain”, the Prata Wala store, as well as three or four surrounding stores, started to flood.

We didn’t know Jurong East Swimming Complex was moving to Jurong Point…

It was also observed that wires were peeking out from the hole in the ceiling.

Yishun can rest easy now—there’s a new competitor in town for the title of “the ghetto of Singapore”.

Diners Ran Out of Prata Wala in Panic

There were approximately 20 diners in the store. Once the ceiling plate fell and rainwater started seeping through the hole in the ceiling, though, there were zero diners left in the store—they all ran out in panic.

Fortunately, no one was injured due to the falling ceiling plate.

We hope no one slipped on the wet floors while running out of the store.

Affected Stores Temporarily Closed

The only good thing that came out of this was probably that the affected stores’ staff could end their shifts earlier. Stores affected by the flooding were closed temporarily so that the rainwater could be cleaned up.

Staff from the affected stores worked together to clean up the area and dry off the floors together.

Makeshift Waterfalls in Choa Chu Kang HDB Unit

The rainy spells in Singapore seem to be causing quite a bit of trouble recently. Earlier in March, a Choa Chu Kang resident reported leakages in his living room whenever it rains.

Whenever it rains, water leaks through a power socket on the resident’s living room wall, causing his walls to turn yellow.

While he had tried to seek help from the authorities, it was to no avail. As a result, he eventually decided to get to work on his own by drilling a hole under the socket to drain the water.

“West side, best side” appears to no longer ring true thanks to incidents like these.
