For those of us who do nothing but watch Netflix whenever we’re free, we’ll be very familiar with typical, aesthetic scenes of the protagonists pouring alcohol down drains.
These probably look really cool and artsy when we see it on the big screen, but it’s not something to try in real life, and could get you into very serious trouble with the authorities – even if you are one.
Down The Drain
On 17 Sep, a video of some men who appeared to be police officers and others clad in casual clothes was posted on the Singapore Road Accident Facebook page. It showed the men non-stop pouring bottles of what seemed to be alcohol down the drain, with many more of such bottles surrounding them.

According to the caption, a worker had tried to smuggle various bottles of alcohol into Tuas View Dormitory, and eventually got caught.
The bottles in question included plastic bottles and soft drink cans.
The bottles were then confiscated by police officers deployed there, who were also assisting in the disposal of the alcohol. The officers were all wearing face shields and masks while disposing of the alcohol, with a man in black putting the emptied bottles into a trash bag.
However, their methods of disposal seemed to be quite… problematic in the eyes of the public.
While it might have been okay to pour some amount of alcohol into the drain, this was harmful to the environment as there was a large quantity of alcohol involved, and netizens argued that it should have been disposed of properly.

Well, yes. That would’ve been considered to be proper.
Despite the drain in question leading to the sea directly and not to the public water supply, it is still concerning.

Certis Responds
Certis has since responded to the online buzz on the same night by saying that they are aware of their auxiliary police officers actions in assisting to dispose of the confiscated alcohol.
“We take a serious view of this incident and are conducting further investigations,” they added.
In the meantime, rumours have it that Ah Hock is now rushing over to Tuas now to drink the most expensive drain water in the world.
