When you’re travelling on a bus, there’s a certain feeling of invincibility.
Since buses are much bigger and therefore sturdier than cars or bikes, we feel much safer in these vehicles.
And statistics back this feeling up, as you’re three times more likely to get injured driving a car than taking a bus.
But just like all statistically improbable occurrences, just because something is less likely to happen doesn’t mean it won’t.
3 Buses Involved in a Chain Collision at Upper Paya Lebar Road
Three buses were involved in a chain collision at a bus stop at Paya Lebar Road yesterday (17 Oct).
A bus driver and two passengers were injured in the accident.
The accident occurred at around 7:25am at a bus stop near Block 160 Hougang Street 11. The bus services involved were 113, 24, and 76.
Footage of the aftermath of the incident was shared on Facebook, showing three empty SBS Transit buses close together.
It’s unclear what caused the accident, but the bus at the back appears to have sideswiped a railing near the bus stop as its side mirror could be seen in the ground next to it.
Those injured in the collision included a bus driver of service 113, a passenger on bus 24, and another passenger on bus 113.
The bus driver and the 72-year-old passenger onboard bus 24 were both conveyed to Sengkang General Hospital in a conscious state.
The other passenger, onboard service 113, was attended to by paramedics at the scene and left soon after.
SBS Transit Response
Speaking to The Straits Times, SBS Transit senior vice-president of corporate communications Tammy Tan said the company has been in touch with both passengers to “extend [its] care and concern and assist as best [it] can”.
“We apologise to affected passengers and motorists for the distress and inconvenience caused, and are currently assisting the police in its investigations.”
Police investigations are ongoing.

At around 1:05pm on 22 Sep, an SBS Transit Bus is believed to have slammed into a pillar of a Skytrain track above it.
The accident occurred along 65 Airport Boulevard, between Terminal 3 and Terminal 1.
When the Singapore Civil Defence Force arrived, they found a person trapped at the driver’s seat of the bus. Fortunately, they managed to rescue the trapped individual using hydraulic rescue equipment.
Three people involved in the accident were then taken to Changi General Hospital in a conscious state.
Those injured are the 59-year-old male bus driver, who sustained leg abrasions, and two passengers, a 34-year-old woman, and a man, 42.
