On 19 Aug 2020, Chained Dog Awareness in Singapore took to Facebook to appeal for help.
They had come across this dog which was tied on a short leash to a fence just beside a bus stop.
Initially, they thought that it was a dog which got lost.
However, after investigating further, they realised that the dog belongs to an elderly homeless man.
Apparently, the elderly man has been caring for stray dogs in Singapore since 1990.
He was the one who had tied the dog to the railing and had been caring for it for the past ten years.
As for why the leash was kept so short, it’s because he’s afraid the dog will escape and run onto the road, meeting with an accident.
Chased Out By Landlord
The elderly man had allegedly rented a storeroom previously, where he put the dog together with a few boxes.
Unfortunately, he was chased out by the landlord.
He knows that he has to give the dog up but he will only do so if he gets to see where the dog is going to.
That includes going into the home to make sure the dog settles down properly and maybe even have visitation rights.
It was noted that the dog seems to have trouble walking properly and has a lump on his body.
Potential Adopter Found
In an update, Chained Dog Awareness in Singapore said that the dog has been brought to the vet.
It was at the clinic that the volunteers on-site finally managed to persuade the uncle to let him go to a better home.
To top off the good news, it was also revealed that they have found a potential adopter.
Now, they can only proceed after the dog is discharged from the clinic.
They added that they will reach out to the homeless elderly man and understand his situation better, as well as figure out how best to help him.
