An advent calendar sold by Chanel has sparked a massive backlash online due to its pitifully underwhelming contents.
For those who don’t know, an advent calendar is a special calendar used to count the days of Advent in anticipation of Christmas. The modern ones are large and come with a gift for each day, hidden away in a tiny compartment.
So, as they count down the days till Christmas, they can open a new gift every day. Sounds nice, right? Sure, unless you pay $1,150 for one and get some stickers.
That’s exactly what happened to some Chanel customers after they purchased the luxury brand’s own advent calendar.
One such customer – TikToker @eliseharmon – shared a video of her unpacking Chanel’s advent calendar with her followers last week.
Right off the bat, Elise was not too pleased with the fact that the calendar started from the 5th of December, meaning there were fewer gifts for her, but she was willing to let it go.
She decided to open one gift at random – Day 9 – and found that she had gotten some Chanel stickers.
Yes, stickers.
“Okay, this has to be a joke. This is a joke! Stickers? Stickers?!” she said, incredulous.
Disappointed, she opened another gift – Day 7 – and found a 50ml tub of hand cream, which she actually liked.
But the other gifts were as equally underwhelming as the first – a magnet, a plastic snow globe, a badge, and yes, more stickers.

Other enraged Chanel customers took to social media to lambast the luxury brand for charging S$1,150 for what is essentially a box of “junk”.

Chanel Apologises
Under tremendous pressure, Chanel had no choice but to issue an apology:
“We are sorry that this calendar may have disappointed some people. The exclusive content of the calendar has always been fully detailed on our website chanel.com as well as on the packaging of the product: 27 boxes numbered from 5 to 31, containing full-size perfume and makeup products, miniatures and souvenirs all stamped with Gabrielle Chanel’s lucky number.”
Saying you’re sorry that you may have disappointed some people is as good as apologising while slapping someone in the face. Fans of the brand are unlikely to be appeased by such an insincere statement.
Interestingly, some netizens have claimed that Chanel has deleted its TikTok account following the backlash, something that the brand has since denied.
It said its TikTok account “has never been activated, no content has ever been published, it has no subscriber and no subscription. The page therefore appears empty to anyone who visits it.”
