Nothing hurts more than knowing that your partner has cheated on you.
If you have a friend who had just been cheated on, you might have heard them asked: “What did he/she have that I don’t?”
Scrolling through sad quotes on Instagram usually comes after.
Looking for answers? You might just be on the right page.
1. “Once a cheater, always a cheater”
According to Business Insider’s Lindsay Dodgson, that phrase might just be true.
A 2017 study followed 500 adults through two mixed-gender romantic relationships.
Participants were asked to confess their own infidelity and whether they knew/suspected that their partner had been unfaithful.
It was revealed that those who had reported being unfaithful in their first relationship were three times more likely to report to the same mistake in their second relationship.
And you know what’s even more interesting?
Participants who reported that their first partner had cheated on them were twice as likely to report that their second partner had cheated on them!
Is being cheated on a curse?
2. Morality holds people back
A study published in the Journal of Sex Research, participants were asked to indicate their most important reason as to why a person would cheat on their partner.
One of the top four reasons that emerged was morality. Morality is the main factor that keeps married people faithful.
And now that you know that… would you say that love is a feeling or a choice?
To me, love is a choice. You choose to stay faithful because you know you that cheating is immoral. If love was a feeling, you would have cheated long ago.
3. Which is worse? Emotional or sexual infidelity?
Well, a 2013 research showed that most straight men would be more upset if they have found out that their partner was having a sexual relationship with someone else.
On the other hand, most women would be more upset if their partner has fallen in love with someone else.
Interesting… could this be because most men feel the need to compensate more physically?
4. Men are more likely to cheat when their age ends with number nine
In other words, men are more likely to cheat right before they hit their birthday milestones.
Researchers came to the conclusion after looking at activity on Ashely Madison, a dating site for people who are already in relationships.
A similar but smaller effect was also observed among women, according to The Wall Street Journal.
5. “His father was a cheater too“
Research has found that certain people are more likely to cheat, depending on their biology.
Infidelity has been found to be more common among people who had specific types of oxytocin and vasopressin receptor genes, according to a study published in the journal Evolution and Human Behaviour.
It was also revealed that 40% and 60% of infidelity in women and men respectively had to do with genetics.
But that doesn’t mean that when you get caught cheating you can say “MY GENES MADE ME CHEAT, BABE.”
