When you have a child, you have the responsibility to care for them and ensure that they get their basic human needs. You should take care of them at least until they are old enough to take care of themselves. However, one two-year-old toddler wasn’t so lucky because he was subjected to child abuse, and ended up losing his life, all because of his family.
A 22-year-old Taiwanese lady known as Lin and her boyfriend, Xiao, were recently sued for allegedly abusing and starving their two-year-old son to death after locking him inside a toilet without any food for three consecutive days.
Lin was apparently not at home when Xiao decided to lock up the toddler in the toilet, all because he was making too much noise by Xiao’s standards. Lin didn’t return home until three days later, and when she opened the door to the toilet, she found the two-year-old’s lifeless body next to the toilet bowl, covered in his own urine and excrement.
Medical personnel and Taipei City Fire Department were alerted to the incident at 7pm on 9 November 2018, and they were shocked to find that the boy was unusually thin, weighing only 5.7kg. According to the medical examiners, the boy had not eaten for at least a week before his body was found.
The authorities immediately opened an investigation on the couple to determine what actually happened because it seemed like a case of child abuse.
A Case Of Clear Child Abuse
That’s when they found out that Lin was working as a hotel staff and was slightly mentally unstable.
After she gave birth to her son, her relatives and friends took her in and took care of them, but this all stopped in August the same year for reasons unknown. She then had no choice but to live with her brother in Taipei to support her child while working.
When her child cried out of hunger or pain, as any child would, Lin and her brother would beat him severely before locking him inside the toilet instead of tending to him.
In September that year, Lin got to know her boyfriend online and invited him to stay with her and her brother in their five-by-five square foot rental apartment.
You would think that the child abuse would have stopped now that a stranger has stepped in and the boy would finally get the help he deserved, but no.
Whenever the boy wanted food, Lin and her boyfriend would throw leftover pieces of bread at him, as if he was worse than a dog. Likewise, when he made noise, Lin would simply lock him in the toilet to make him learn his lesson.
These three adults continued to torture the little boy until they left the apartment in October.
Sued For Abandonment Of Child
Lin was sued for leaving her child alone for long periods of time without providing proper food, care or assistance. Xiao did nothing to help the poor boy despite knowing that he was suffering every single day of his life. He joined in the abuse, and just hung out with Lin, spending most of their money on food and prostitution.
They are both currently being prosecuted by the Taipei District Prosecutor’s Office and prosecutors are also looking to prosecute Lin’s brother for being an associate to their crimes.
It is absolutely heartbreaking to know that the boy was properly cared for and instead had to be subjected to child abuse by the people he trusted the most. One can only imagine the horrors and pain the child suffered as he waited in the toilet all alone without any food.
We hope that the boy rests in peace and that justice will be served.
