Chinese Cafe Launches Coffee Made with Pork Intestines, Sales Quadruple

A café in Jiangyou, Sichuan Province has captured global attention with its unconventional coffee creation that blends latte with pork intestine juice and chitterlings.

The unusual drink launched in early June at the southwestern China establishment.

Pork Intestine Latte Features Three Intensity Levels

The café offers the intestine-infused latte at RMB32 (~SGD5.60) per cup. Customers can choose from three distinct flavour levels – entrance, mid and high – with each tier delivering increasingly stronger pork intestine taste.

Café owner Zhang Yuchi sources the pork intestines from a well-established local restaurant. He then extracts liquid from the red-braised pork intestine dish and incorporates it into the coffee blend.

Mr Zhang adds precisely six grams of intestinal liquid to each latte. This measurement resulted from multiple testing rounds to achieve the desired balance.

“We want customers to enjoy the delicate taste of the intestines, but without compromising the coffee’s flavour,” Mr Zhang explained.

The drink produces a sweet and salty flavour profile that Mr Zhang describes as similar to “salty cheese”.

Sales Surge Four Times Following Viral Launch

The drink has generated remarkable business success since its debut in early June. Sales at the café increased fourfold, with approximately 80% of customers now ordering the unusual beverage.

Some customers travel from other cities specifically to sample the viral drink.

Chinese social media users have engaged in heated debates about the unconventional pairing.

Some netizens expressed fascination with the culinary experiment and willingness to try it.
