To avoid crowds and prevent potential Covid-19 clusters from forming, the 2021 Chingay Parade will be fully online for the first time in history.

But that doesn’t mean it’s any less fun because digital or not, Chingay is set to provide a whole host of new experiences you’ve not tried before, including dancing to a hawker song.
This Year’s Chingay Will Have a TikTok Dance Challenge Whereby You’d Have to Dance to a Hawker Song
According to Straits Times, Singapore’s hawker culture which was recently UNESCO-ed will be celebrated in Chingay 2021.
How?
By inviting everyone to join in a TikTok dance challenge with a hawker song composed by Goh Kheng Long.
The song takes inspiration from the sounds of the local hawker culture and will include familiar noise like the ordering of food, the sizzling of woks and more.
How To Participate
From 5 Feb to 14 Feb, people are able to submit videos of themselves dancing to the hawker song.
You will have to dance to the song with as many household props as possible.

Then, simply use the hashtag #hawkerculturejingle and challenge two of your friends to do the dance-off as well.
The top 20 most-liked videos on TikTok will walk away with a S$100 Lazada voucher.
You can also submit a video of you doing the challenge on the day of Chingay itself (20 Feb 2021) between 8pm and 9pm via WhatsApp to 8882-1004.

Three lucky winners will be selected and the prize is a staycation worth S$1,000.
Anyone Can Perform in the Parade
Other than the TikTok dance-off and a fully-digital format for the first time, the Chingay Parade this year will also be filled with performances made by anyone in Singapore.
If you have a hidden talent, you can submit a 1-minute video for the We’ve Got Talent category.
Or if you have a great voice, you can submit a video of you singing to the Sing With Me category. You can sing on your own or with your families, friends, and even neighbours.
There will also be a dance competition where young dancers will brighten elements of local dance cultures with new, unique interpretations.

Winners will not only get a prize but will feature in the Chingay Parade as well.
Even if you don’t come out victorious, you’ll be able to see your submission on Chingay TV.
Also, as part of the Let’s Build A Float and Sew (So) Stylo campaigns, residents can also design their own Chingay floats and costumes.
